2 new comedy-mysteries by Richard Evans
A Cheap Dime Novel

Private eye Harry Monument has a junk food problem - he's been found murdered in a trail of french fries. Searching for his partner's killer leads Keno Argyle to a seductive Asian beauty whose father is paving the beach at Malibu; a building inspector with a wooden leg; and a waiter who sleeps standing up. All this and more in 'the artificial city of Los Angeles' in Richard Evans' anachronistic parody of the noir genre, "A Cheap Dime Novel."

The Modern Motor-Driven Woodworking Shop

Co-billed is "The Modern Motor-Driven Woodworking Shop," the tragi-comic story of an abusive furniture maker, his troubled son, and his bald wife in Depression-era Kansas - and their guest, a traveling wig salesman whose sales technique is somewhat steamier than a freshly baked slice of American pie. A winner in Seattle's Great Zap Dod absurdist playwriting contest, with incidental music by Michael Licastro.

In rehearsal since late fall, the two comedies will receive an elaborate production with unique sets, lighting, and special effects, and feature a cast of Whidbey favorites including Michael Licastro, Michele LaRue, David Licastro, Richard Evans, Shannon Licastro, Jim Freeman, Bryan Swett, Mike McVay, and others. Both plays are produced by SpeakEasy and Studio Siena, with the participation of IAC (Island Arts Council); written and directed by Evans.
