| Equipment I've started to redo this section so some of the pages still have the old layout. Cameras don't take pictures — photographers take pictures. A good photographer can make good images from a toy camera. But it's nice having the right tool for the job. Taking pictures of fast moving children is not the job of a tripod mounted view camera while architectural photography is better served with the view camera and not a 35mm rangefinder. One camera does not fit all. But buying cameras to fit all jobs can be very expensive. It needn't be. There are many old cameras available that once took great pictures. The big secret is that they still take great pictures. These cameras are often referred to as bottom feeders. They can be had for not a lot of money. And, thanks to the digital revolution, some of these cameras can be had for nothing as photographers dump their film cameras. This section is my journey into setting up a complete photography kit with inexpensive, sometimes obscure, but excellent camera gear. I went digital in 1998 with a 1.4 megapixel Olympus D-600L. When I went to upgrade several years later I realized that digital cameras are essentially disposable cameras. There lifespan is only a few years and I couldn't afford to play that game. Not to mention that there is no long term archival storage solution for digital images. Not that I am anti-digital. I borrow my wife's Pentax *ist DL digital SLR for some of my work. Most of the pictures in this section were taken digitally. But for higher quality, more flexibility, and a cheaper alternative, I use scanned film. This entire kit was put together for less than a professional digital SLR would cost and has a lot more capability than any digital camera. I didn't have to buy all these cameras. Some were already sitting on my shelf. I bought them years ago and stopped using them. Many were bought online (Bless you eBay!), and some were given to me. Some are still being repaired or waiting for a CLA. I'm still doing some adding and subtracting but it's getting close to the final lineup. Here they are.
Digital Many of the pictures on this web site were taken with this digital cameras. I don't have any pictures of them. Soon.
